Do you ever feel like you just can’t do life anymore? You’re sad, lost, bummed, and everything is just too hard?
I feel like that sometimes. Maybe we all have our days? Maybe it’s just me? I don’t know.
It helps to talk to someone or take medicine. To get exercise or sunshine. But there’s one other thing I’ve found can help. . . talking to Jesus.
I start by reading a few Bible verses.
Then I just sit there and have a mental conversation with Jesus. I give him my thoughts and opinions (even if part of that involves being irritated at Him). I tell him about all my troubles and what I’m worried about.
In many ways, it’s a one-sided spiritual counseling session.
It’s not that I always hear a response or have some great feeling of nearness to God. A lot of times, when I’m going through a rough patch, that’s actually the hardest time for me to hear God.
But there’s something that happens inside me spiritually when I sit down like this and talk to Jesus. Something changes or is filled up or however you want to look at it.
When I come away from this time, I feel better.
It’s to the point now that my husband can tell if I’ve been skipping this time with Jesus, because I’m different, crabby, empty.
And it makes sense. We weren’t meant to do this life alone. The Bible says:
“I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Jesus is the vine. We are the branches. It’s no wonder it feels like we can’t do life without Jesus. A branch doesn’t last long without its vine.
